Welcome to Dore Abbey…

Once part of a Cistercian monastery founded in 1147, the Abbey holds a very special place in the heart of our community. It is used regularly for Christian worship as well as concerts, theatre, arts and crafts and even the village fete. History and faith meet and we find connection and belonging. Outside, there's a simple grass labyrinth mown in the cloisters and picnic tables in the old orchard. We're part of the Quiet Garden movement. Come and be still, enjoy the quiet, wonder at the building, touch the stones and add your prayers to those that have been made over the last 800 years, join a service or an event. Opened every day of the year by a rota of villagers, 9am until about 4 in the winter, later in the summer. No services or events during January and February; even with hot water bottles and rugs, it's too cold...
