____________________

On his arrival in Hereford in 1833 John Venn was shocked to find extreme poverty and deprivation

With the help of his sister and his Aunt, he set to work with a series of building projects including a school, a steam mill, public washing baths and later made available allotments for rent for the poor to grow their own food.

He founded the Hereford City Mission which exists today as Vennture.

Narration recorded by Jules Hudson  (Escape to the Country, Countryfile) and is accompanied by a visual presentation on large screen.
